Hi,
I'm trying to install Arc 10 but keep getting the same problem. After checking for old versions of Arc, the installer fails with error code 0x80070648. Our IT techs have had a look remotely, and first of all said that they couldn't see any reason for it, and then said that there's an old remnant of a previous installation causing problems. However, this is a brand new PC that has never had Arc installed on it at all so that seems weird. Is there anything that I can do to fix this, other than a re-imaging of the PC?
Many thanks,
Rob.

I have tried to set static ports for my firewall, but when I save the "service.exe" file and open up license manager to restart it, it freezes and will not restart. I am running server 2012. Has anyone run into this?

Hi,
I have tried and tried again to install ArcGIS 10.1 onto my laptop. However I get error code 1311 each time.
My university has told me that the installation should be no problem with my laptop. I have found other threads regarding this error but I thought posting the question again would do no harm.
How do I get past the error?
Thank you

I installed SP1 on an ArcGIS 10.1 installation running on Windows Server 2008. The Server is also running ArcGIS Server and license manager. Since the update ArcCatalog fails to start, I get the "ArcGIS Desktop has encountered as serious application error..." everytime. ArcMap start fine though and other users can log into the machine and start ArcCatalog without problems. I've tried hunting down and deleting personalized user config files in Users/me/appdata/local/esri and in mydocuments/ArcGIS but nothing seems to help.
I've run the repair tool accessed through the OS's Programs and Features and rebooted the machine - still doesn't load.
There are no third party extensions loaded, no addin's added.
Anyone had similar issues??

- Is lmutil.exe part of the standard installation of the ArcMap 10 client?
- How do I install lmutil.exe after the fact?
Thanks in advance!

I'm planning to rebuild my computer and I have one standalone ArcGis destop license on it. I can't transfer it to another computer then transfer it back after the rebuild, so is it possible to "dock" or deactivate it then re-activate after the rebuild and subsquent re-installation?

I've been using an options file to manage access to our v10.0 concurrent use licenses and it's been really helpful. I'm now attempting to add controls on license borrowing, but am running into problems. We have a group (INFO_USERS) and I would like this group (and only this group) to have access to our concurrent use ArcInfo licenses and have the ability to borrow an ArcInfo license. Is it possible to give a single group permission to do both of these?
Here's how I have the options file set up:
GROUP INFO_USERS user1 user2 user3
INCLUDE ARC/INFO GROUP INFO_USERS
INCLUDE_ENTITLEMENT EFL123456789 GROUP INFO_USERS
The INCLUDE statement works fine - only users on the list can get a concurrent use license. However, the INCLUDE_ENTITLEMENT line only works if I remove the INCLUDE line. When the INCLUDE line is there, I get an "Error Borrowing/Returning License" message. Which means I can control who borrows a license, but then I lose control over who has access to the concurrent use licenses. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
ive got a problem with my recently installed ArcGIS 10 Education Edition. All Tools are looking like the picture uploaded below.
I already checked for similar problems in the forums and tried a few of the solutions (renaming registry, upgrading with service packs etc.) but nothing worked so far for me.
I had to reformat my computer (ArcGIS was working fine before but had a hard drive issue) and since then its not working anymore. I searched for old ArcGIS files (found none) before installing it. I tried repair function from the CD, didnt work either.
Im using a laptop with Windows 7 64bit and I am updating every important programm regularly, so I dont expect the error in a non-existent upgrade. Anyone had the same problem or got an idea?
Thanks for your help and time.
Greetings,
Thomas

A workmate has created a custom geographic transformation and we would like to use it in some other machines.
We thought it would be as easy as copying the .gtf file to the Application Data folder on every machine (which for us is D:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.1\ArcToolbox\CustomTransformations) but for some reason none of ArcGIS functionalities can access the new goegraphic transformation.
We tried restarting the machines but it's not working.
Does anyone know what's the problem? Can't we use custom transformations created on a different machine?
Thank you!

I'm about to begin converting VB code from ArcGIS 9.2 to 10.0. The computer I'll be working on had ArcGIS installed first (ArcEditor), then Visual Studio 2010. When I try to create a new project in Visual Studio, I don't see the options for creating ArcGIS add-ins (I've looked in both .NET Frameworks 3.5 & 4.0).
Does anyone know what needs to be done so I can create add-ins?

Hello everyone!
I am a student who is trying to install the education edition onto my laptop, after about 8 minutes my computer finally recognized that there was in fact a DVD in the drive, however, it will not run and shows the DVD as empty. I attached 3 screen shots to show my dilemma. I already registered the software online before I attempted to install. I run Windows Vista. Thank you for any help!! :D

Hi everyone,
I just got the installation cd of ArcGIS Education Edition 10 from my university. I started the installation and everything seemed to be fine, I started the license activation and the computer went to hibernation without me noticing it, when I restarted it the license activation gave me an error, I dismissed the error and tried to wait but it wasn't advancing anymore.
Here I made a mistake! I uninstalled the software to restart the installation from scratch. Again the software installation went smoothly but when I got to the license it told me it was already been used for another software. I tried installing the License Manager to deactivate the license but it says there is no license to deactivate.
What can i do?

Hi,
We recently upgraded on Windows 7 64-bit systems to ArcGIS 10.1. The program starts fine for root (the local administrator account used to install the program) but hangs and will not finish launching for any other users.
Any help would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks.

Hello Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone else is having a problem with the latest patch (1-14-13) (ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 for (Desktop, Engine, Server) PostgreSQL and Parcel Editing Performance Patch) and postgres versions less than 8.4? I'm running 8.3 here and can no longer connect to the database due to an error regarding cursor_tuple_fraction (this was introduced into postgres 8.4 it seems).
This patch makes ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 no longer backwards compatible with Postgres 8.3 (and therefore ArcSDE <= 10.0 on Postgres <= 8.3.x).
This might be worth throwing up a warning about... re-install seems to be the 'fix'.

I just started working with the VBA extension in ArcGIS 10.0. Any ArcObjects reference I use must include the library name, or it throws an error. For Example:
Code:
Dim pMxDoc as IMxDocument
Set pMxDoc = ThisDocument
Dim pLayer As ILayer
Set pLayer = pMxDoc.SelectedLayer
doesn't work, but
Code:
Dim pMxDoc as esriArcMapUI.IMxDocument
Set pMxDoc = ThisDocument
Dim pLayer As esriCarto.ILayer
Set pLayer = pMxDoc.SelectedLayer
does.
Is this normal? If not, what needs to be fixed?

Trying to install arcGIS 10.1 desktop on a client machine. The uninstall utility gives error 1316: network error...but the program is not showing up on machine anywhere. Tried to go ahead and run the 10.1 install and it says that 10.0 still exists on machine. I have ran both a silent install and deleted rededit files and still nothing works. Any suggestions??
Thanks,
Julia

Hi
I use a one year trial Version 9.3.1
When I started with the editor everything worked well.
Now I wanted to use the spatial analyst tools and registrated it through the deskop administrator. It shows me that I am now
registrated for spatial analyst until november 2013. But when I wanted to use the tool in Arc Map it says that I am not enabled to use it.
Has anyone an idea how to manage this? Or am i not allowed to use spatial analyst with the editor trial?
Thanks

Hi
We are encountering an obscure issue with ArcGIS desktop 9.3.1 on our Windows Server 2008 machines. A conflict between the windows tablet and ink services was breaking mouse input on the Microsoft Document Imaging, which we use to view documents from hyperlinks in ArcMap.
Microsoft Support suggest resolving the problem by moving some files around and removing permissions to wisptis, along deleting a bunch of registry keys.
This does fix the problem with Microsoft Document Imaging (MDI) but whenever I open ArcGIS Desktop the Windows Installer fires up to try and configure ArcGIS desktop - it's trying to install/fix the tablet ink services as inked.dll and wisptis.exe are missing/not registered.
It seems to be a chicken and egg situation that Microsoft Document Imaging and ArcGIS desktop can't co-exist on server 2008, all because of an input method that we'll never be using. Does anyone know of a way to disable tablet input in ArcGIS for good so these Microsoft Installer dialogues stop bothering my users ?
I have come across
this thread which explains Microsoft Installer poppig up to configure ArcMap at every launch, but the fix for that will break MDI again..
Thanks!
Andrew
