Greetings -
I am attempting to modify a 9.3.1 installation so that the Maplex extension can be installed.
When I launch the esri.exe, I click through the Modify existing installation and select Maplex from the list of choices.
During the installation, a window appears identifying that "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'setup.msi' in the box below."
I have copied the installation files to the user's local drive, and navigated to the location of the setup.msi. When the installation resumes, another error message appears stating the following:
"The file 'C:\temp\93Desktop_ConcurrentUse\Desktop\setup.msi' is not a valid installation package for the product ArcGIS Desktop. Try to find the installation package 'setup.msi' in a folder from which you can install ArcGIS Desktop."
I am attempting to install the extension from the 9.3 install files as the 9.3.1 upgrade was an msp file that does not provide the option of adding an extension to an existing install.
I am hesitant to take the install back to 9.3 from 9.3.1 as there is a 3rd party application, Milsoft, that is running with Desktop.
Does anyone have any ideas as to possible work arounds to add extensions to an existing install when the setup.msi is not being recognized?
The existing installation is on a Windows 7, 64-bit machine.
Thank you.

To re-create the problem I'm having:
- Open the "Add Join" geoprocessing tool
- Click the folder icon next to the first field: "Layer Name or Table View"
- Imagine you have to wait 1-2 minutes for ArcMap to unfreeze
*Note that this is just an example. The problem affects all geoprocessing tools, not just Add Join.
I've gone into
Customize-->ArcMap Options and
Geoprocessing-->Geoprocessing Options and tried all of the obvious stuff. We have four identical computers (Windows XP, ArcGIS 10.1 SP1), and only this one has the problem. What's more, it appears to only affect one user. When a different person logs in, the problem doesn't appear to persist. I've found reports of similar issues with the "Add Data" button, but that isn't a problem here.
Thoughts anyone?

I obtained a copy of 10.1 form my professor. After typing in the EVA code it looked as if I was able to download 10.2. I have now downloaded it. However it is not working do to a linense problem. It never prompted me to check single use at the end of installing and when i got to ArcGis Administrator and choose the Desktop folder the licensing options are greyed out and unselectable.
Does a 10.1 EVA code work on 10.2? if so how can I get it to work?

Hello,
I am currently trying to install the arcGIS desktop 10 (90 day free trial) for a class I am taking.
After my first download, I was getting a windows installer error and could not install the software.
Removed everything and downloaded the software a second time.
Now my error is: Unsupported 16 bit application: the exe will not start due to incompatibility with windows 64 bit?
Says it is incompatible with MY version if windows, as stated above (64 bit).
I hope that isn't too vague, but I don't know what to do. I did look and it said 64 bit windows does support this software.
Any help is appreciated.

Hola,
Gracias

Hi All,
Prior to upgrading our License Manager to 10.2, we were able to open multiple instances of ArcMap and ArcCatalog on the same machine without any issues. We are running Arc10.0 on desktops. There is an option file in the LM that calls for one ArcInfo to be reserved for one user and the other is true floating, however, in use most of the time.
If I open ArcMap and then attempt to open ArcCatalog or another ArcMap, I get the following:
Provide your license server administrator with the following information:
Cannot connect to license server system.
The license server manager (lmgrd) has not been started yet,
the wrong port@host or license file is being used, or the
port or hostname in the license file has been changed.
Feature: Arc/INFO
servername: name
License path: @name;
Flexnet Licenseing error: -15570
Attempting to change back to the old server which still has the LM on it (to be shut down later this week) it tells me that the server name isn't a license manager. When looking at the ArcGIS Administrator, it also says that there are no ArcInfo desktops available and I've logged out, so that isn't true. Using the script 'Where Have All the Licenses Gone' shows that only the other editor has ArcInfo open. He is also using the same server and license manager and Arc10.0.
What gives? If I have to take this back to LM 10.1 or 10.0, I need to do it tonight! I'm moving the editors and users over to the new server as I type!
Thanks

I've installed the ArcGIS Basic 10.2 with a floating license on a Windows 7 partition on my Mac. Everything is working fine if I boot up using a Bootcamp partition.
If I use Parallels VM, and boot into the same Bootcamp partition, the ArcGIS LM fails to start (Windows Services shows that it's not running, although it's set to Automatic). If I try to open License Server Administrator I get a message "System binding changed. Some licenses may not be available".
Is it possible to use the same ArcGIS License Manager running Windows in a dedicated Bootcamp partition, and also within a Parallels VM?
Thanks,
Steve

If so how?

Is there any document or note to clarify that if ArcGIS Engine support download map data(work for offline data) on Windows 8 Pro?
I am meeting a very curious issue. that is when installed ArcGIS Engine on Windows 8 Pro, we can download map data from server to
local by AO interface at first time. but it was failure a few days later, and always throw COM+ exception at below code.
IMapDocument mapDoc = new MapDocumentClass();
mapDoc.Open(fullMxdFileName, string.Empty); // fullMxdFileName is the relative position for the MXD file.
map = mapDoc.get_Map(0);// throw exception at this place
we used VS2010 and ArcGIS Engine 10.1&10.2.
Does anyone meeting this issue or give any suggestion?
Thanks

I just upgraded to 10.2 and lost all my feature connections(sources)to my FGDB.
I've been using the same FGDB since 10.0 and don't recall this happening before, is there something I
can do reconnect to all my data sources in my FGDB other than doing each one individually in my drawing?
Hopefully I can still use the same datatbase.

Hello,
I just downloaded the trial version of ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2. I've never used the software, and am hoping to teach myself, after having used MapInfo and Manifold.
I ran the installation, which appeared successful. I expected to see a .exe file called ArcGIS 10.2. Instead, I'm seeing ones like ArcGlobe, ArcMap, ArcScene etc.
When I try to click on one, e.g. ArcMap, I get the following message;
"Could not connect to an ArcGIS license manager running on host "Not_Set"
I'm confused as to why there's an error message involving licenses. There should have been an option somewhere (or even a defualt) to just run trial mode. Can anyone help me?
Thanks

I'm using 60 day trial arcGIS 10.2 desktop with 15 days left. I want to purchase the 1 yr personal single use license.
Do I have to completely uninstall the trial and redownload the 1 year purchase, or is there a way I can just purchase the 1 year
license and then enter a new activation code?
The 10.2 installation was challenging, although once installed, program is working fine. I prefer not to have to uninstall and reinstall if there is any other possible alternative.

I'm trying to configure my Options file so I can set license numbers reserved for 3 different groups
When I use the RESERVE option to set the amount, borrowing will not work. It throws up an error message.
I can use the MAX option that does allow borrowing, but my fear is that other users not included in the license group can get licenses.
Why won't the RESERVE option work with borrowing?
Edit- Using latest 10.2 license server administrator with new 10.2-10.1 licenses.

Dear colleagues,
We are managing our ArcGIS 10.0 concurrent licenses via ArcGIS License Server Administrator 10.0.
These days one of our machines, which had borrowed one Arc Editor license, was renamed without returning the borrowed license before – as a result the license was no longer detected and ArcMap is not working. We renamed the machine to its old name but that didn’t help.
Any advice how to fix this problem would be very much appreciated.

Hello!
I need to change the license level of ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 software (Basic, Standard, Advanced) without using ArcGIS Administrator.
Users does not have administrative rights for their accounts, but they need to switch between the levels.
Is it possible to set a license level with a registry keys or some files?

My apologies if this is answered elsewhere, I've done some searches in the forums, but have not found the answer.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have 10.1 and would like to move to 10.2, however I understand to do that I need to change the License Manager from 10.1 to 10.2 first. The problem I've encountered is trying to follow the instructions for locating the License Manager under programs and there is no License Manager program on my computer that I can find.
I do have an ArcGIS Administrator, but I don't think that's what I need. Also, it does not seem to be an independently installed program that can be uninstalled. In fact when looking at the Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop seems to be a single program not a set of independent programs, so I'm not sure where to find License Manager in order to uninstall it. Finally, there are instructions on how to uninstall 10.1 License Manager and install 10.2 License Manager, but where do you find 10.2 License Manager or even just the 10.2 ArcGIS? These seem to be expertly hidden if they're available anywhere and not behind some password protected wall.
Sorry if these are really basic questions, but I've been feeling very stupid and frustrated as I go back and forth on the Esri web site trying to find any answers to these questions.
Again, any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

I have been having a recurring problem with ArcGIS 10.2 after upgrading to Windows 8.1. It seems that every time I save and close out of the program, I get that "ArcGIS has encountered a serious application error and is unable to continue." This normally happens when I exit the program, and my file does not seem to be affected, but it has happened randomly while running the program.
I took the advice of others on this forum and enabled both .NET 3.5 and .NET 4.5 within Windows 8.1, but I'm still receiving these error messages. ArcGIS doesn't have any sort of error code associated with this, and the only thing that I see is the window below.
Attachment 28784
Any help with this would be much appreciated. This is more of an annoyance more than anything. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, but the same error still occurs.
My ArcGIS for Desktop (Basic) version is 10.2.03348.
My Windows versions is Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.
